Lesson plan (1:11:55) - A knife is the most fundamental tool in bushcraft. From selecting the correct knife to sharpening it to a razor edge, we walk you through the fundamentals. Learn proper knife techniques as we demonstrate the correct and safe way to use the knife. You’ll even learn how to make your own clever sharpening system. You’re only as sharp as your knife!

Lesson plan (1:02:50) - The ultimate tool for the northern forests, learning how to use an axe safely is a fundamental survival skill. We’ll show you how to select one, sharpen it and maintain it, and use it to safely fell a large tree that we’ll use for a whole host of projects.

Lesson plan (1:03:50) - Building on episode 2, you’ll learn more advanced axe skills such as splitting, sectioning and pointing. We then visit knives again, showing you how to use your new knife techniques to make a great adjustable pot stand for camp. Making your own knife in the woods is about as rewarding as its gets - we’ll show you how!
